Massage therapy is a prominent natural healing art in the skilled manipulation of muscles and soft tissue to promote health and enhance healing. Massage therapy goes beyond encouraging relaxation and relieving stress. It is a valuable treatment option in improving circulation, flexibility and range of motion, enhancing immunity, alleviating headaches, anxiety and depression, and rehabilitation from post-op or injury. By utilizing their hands, fingers, palms, knuckles, forearms, and elbows, massage therapists employ a range of techniques from gentle stroking and kneading to deep circular movements, vibrations, and tapping to relieve patient ailments and enhance well-being.
At SCU, we provide Swedish, deep tissue and sport massages, as well as utilize myofascial release technique (MRT). Each of these modalities has a unique set of benefits in aiding the body’s health and healing. Swedish massage is focused on relaxing and energizing the body by utilizing a variety of strokes and pressure techniques to help aid blood flow, remove toxins from the tissue, stretch ligaments and tendons, and relieve physical and emotional tension. Deep tissue massage focuses on the deepest layers of muscle tissue in painful and stiff areas. Sports massage, however, is used to prevent and heal injuries to muscles and tendons in athletes by focusing on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and aggressive movements performed in physical activity. And lastly, myofascial release is used for treatment of skeletal muscle mobility and pain by massaging, stretching areas that feel rigid, and aids in releasing pressure and tightness. Massage is used for various reasons. Our massage therapists have a strong foundation to target each patient’s symptoms and produce beneficial outcomes.
